The church features a rectangular facade with multiple architectural elements, including detailed gilded woodwork designed by António Vital Rifarto of Coimbra.
Originally constructed as a residential palace, the building transformed into a Discalced Carmelite monastery in 1657 through D. Brites de Lara's patronage.
Interior walls display a collection of artworks depicting Mary, Christ, and Saint Teresa of Ávila, combined with decorative azulejo tiles from local factories.
The church stands in central Aveiro near administrative buildings, courts, and post offices, with limited parking options for visitors.
The structure underwent conversion from palace to convent, maintaining elements from both functions until its recognition as National Monument in 1910.
