The monastery complex includes a church with gilded woodwork, a tomb chamber, and multiple exhibition halls displaying religious artworks from different periods.
Founded between 1458 and 1460 by nobles Brites Leitoa and Mecia Pereira, the monastery received Princess Joana, daughter of King Afonso V, in 1472.
The Museum of Aveiro, housed within the monastery, presents collections of religious art, paintings, sculptures, and goldsmith works from the 15th to 20th centuries.
The museum maintains regular visiting hours, offers guided tours, and provides detailed information panels about the architectural elements and exhibited artifacts.
The ornate marble tomb of Princess Saint Joana, created between 1699 and 1711 by royal architect João Antunes, displays Italian stylistic influences.
