Praia dos Coxos

Praia dos Coxos is a beach near Lisbon with wide sandy stretches bordered by steep cliffs and rocky formations at both ends. The coastal layout and water conditions make it a popular spot for surfing and swimming.

The beach gained recognition in 2011 when it was designated part of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve. This status highlighted its importance as a major surfing destination on the Portuguese coast.

Local fishermen maintain their traditional practices at this beach, using small boats to catch fish near the southern cliff formations.

A parking area at the cliff top provides convenient access to the beach via stairs. The beach has designated zones for different activities, so visitors should check beforehand where each sport is permitted.

Strong right-hand waves form here through reef breaks and can reach considerable heights during winter months. These conditions attract experienced surfers seeking the challenge of the powerful waters.
