Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Graça

Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Graça is a Catholic sanctuary built from granite and situated at 990 meters on Monte Farinha, featuring a square bell tower, octagonal nave, and rectangular chancel. The structure combines these distinct geometric forms into a compact building with stone construction throughout.

The sanctuary was first documented around 1500 and underwent major reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake, with improvements continuing through the following decades. An inscription dated 1775 on the pulpit door marks one of these later renovations.

The sanctuary draws thousands of pilgrims during the Ascension Festival in May, the Santiago pilgrimage in July, and the Annual Pilgrimage in September. These religious celebrations shape the rhythm of community life and bring visitors who come specifically for these important occasions.

Access is available from May through September with morning hours until 12:30 and afternoon access starting at 14:30, while winter months offer more limited visiting times. Seasons change the schedule significantly, so checking ahead ensures you find it open.

The interior features granite domes and barrel vaults combined with a carved polychrome rococo chancel, side pulpits, and ornamental altarpieces that form an uncommon arrangement. These stone and woodwork details from the 1700s remain largely unaltered, giving the space a time-worn character.
