Monumentos da Serra da Brenha, que incluem o Dólmen das Carniçosas

The Carnicosas dolmen is a stone burial chamber from the Neolithic period with a polygonal burial room and seven supporting stones. A passage about 3.5 meters long runs toward the east and provides access to the interior.

This dolmen was built during the Neolithic and used by different cultures over thousands of years. An archaeologist identified it in 1898 and later had it registered as a national monument.

This dolmen is part of a large burial ground that spreads across several ridges, showing how ancient people honored their dead. The structure reflects old burial customs that were common in this mountainous region.

The dolmen is easiest to reach from the village of Arruelas by following Rua das Carnicosas and the signs pointing toward the monument. The terrain can be uneven and damp, so sturdy footwear is recommended.

The dolmen contains artifacts from two different periods because it was used first by Neolithic people and later by Chalcolithic cultures. These layers show that it remained an important place over a very long time.
