Plátanos na margem do rio Lima, also known as Avenida dos Plátanos or Avenida 5 de Outubro, is a pedestrian grove and recreation area along the left bank of the Lima River in Ponte de Lima, Portugal. The street runs beneath a row of tall plane trees that form a continuous canopy over the paved walkway.
The plane trees were planted in 1901, and the avenue was originally named after Prince D. Luís Filipe, who visited the town around that time. After the change of political regime in the early 20th century, it was renamed Avenida 5 de Outubro, though locals have always referred to it by the trees.
The avenue is car-free and easy to walk along, with paved surfaces and benches placed at regular intervals. The shade is thickest in summer, while autumn brings the most color to the leaves, making both seasons good times to visit.
Although the avenue has an official political name, virtually nobody in town uses it: the trees have defined this street so completely that the popular name has outlasted every government change. A recent renovation added new flower beds and lighting without touching the original tree line.
