Hamad International Airport, International airport terminal in Doha, Qatar
Hamad International Airport is an international hub in Doha that serves as a central connection point between Europe, Asia, and Africa. The facility includes a large terminal building with arched roofs, multiple runways, and separate areas for arriving and departing passengers, connected by long walkways and automated trains.
Planning began in the early 2000s to handle growing air traffic in the Gulf region, and construction lasted nearly a decade. The terminal opened in 2014, taking over the role of the older airport that previously handled international traffic.
The main hall displays contemporary art from around the world, including a large bronze bear sculpture that travelers can admire between gates. There are also indoor gardens showing how plants thrive in dry climates, and prayer rooms for Muslim travelers, reflecting daily life in the region.
The terminal operates around the clock and offers continuous connections to the metro, taxis, and car rental services right outside the building. Signage in English and Arabic helps with orientation, and there are wide pathways and elevators for wheelchair users.
Inside, there is a tropical garden with real plants and a small waterfall, creating an unusual atmosphere for an airport in the desert. The open lounge areas also offer swimming pools and fitness centers for passengers with long waits between flights.
