Dorohoi, city in Botoșani County, Romania
Dorohoi is a small town on the right bank of the Jijia river in northern Romania, situated in Botoșani County. The town has narrow streets, historic churches dating back to the 1400s, and traditional houses surrounded by green hills that shape its landscape.
Dorohoi was first mentioned in 1407 as a place where horses were traded. The town played an important role in Moldavia but was attacked several times over the centuries by outside forces, which shaped its growth and recovery patterns.
The name Dorohoi comes from Mihail Dorohoianul, a local administrative figure. The town remains a place where old customs live on in the churches, at the markets, and in how people still greet each other and celebrate together.
The town offers basic lodging such as small hotels and guesthouses for visitors. The main attractions like the church from 1495 and local museums are close together and easily reached on foot through the town center.
An old wooden church from the late 1700s displays craftwork with carved wooden beams shaped like a ship's hull. Inside, religious books from the 1700s are still kept, showing how people built with care despite limited resources.
