Tarutyne, Rural settlement in Bolhrad Raion, Odesa Oblast, Ukraine.
Tarutyne is a small settlement in southwestern Ukraine located in the historical Budjak region. The village sits within Bolhrad Raion of Odesa Oblast and serves as a local center for the surrounding rural communities.
The settlement was founded in 1812 and served as the administrative center of its raion for nearly two centuries. In 2020, the raion was dissolved and incorporated into Bolhrad Raion, marking a major administrative change.
The settlement carries traces of different cultures that have coexisted here across generations. You can sense this mixed heritage in the way locals live and in how the community maintains traditions from various backgrounds.
The settlement can be reached through local infrastructure and uses area code +380-4847 for communications with postal code 68500. Being a small rural community, it offers basic but functional services for visitors and residents.
In September 2024, the settlement was officially renamed from Tarutyne to Bessarabske as part of Ukraine's broader derussification efforts. This name change reflects nationwide initiatives to rename locations with Russian-origin designations.
