Castra of Tirighina-Bărboși, Roman military fort near Danube River in Galați, Romania.
The Tirighina-Bărboși fort stands on a height near the Siret River confluence with the Danube, extending across 10 hectares of archaeological terrain.
Built during Emperor Trajan's rule in the 2nd century AD, this fort housed several military units including the II Matiacorum and I Hispanorum veterana cohorts.
Archaeological excavations revealed two Roman necropolises, amphorae deposits, civil settlements, and numerous artifacts reflecting daily life in ancient Moesia.
The southeastern corner of the fort remains visible today, with access available through the main road connecting Galați to Tecuci and Brăila.
A marble slab discovered at the site contains inscriptions that confirm the fort's role as a strategic military installation within the Limes Moesicus defense system.
