Fortified church in Cincu, Brașov

The Fortified Church of Cincu stands on a hillside with a 29-meter tower visible from considerable distance. The interior features a three-nave layout with vaulted ceilings and Gothic elements dating to the 13th century, along with later modifications.

The building first appears in records in 1328 under the name Chenk and suffered damage from Turkish raids in 1493. Major reconstruction work followed a destructive fire in 1789.

The church's name reflects the early settlers who shaped the area from the 13th century onward. The preserved guild insignia on display indicate the craftspeople and trade groups who historically gathered here for community events.

Access involves climbing a paved pathway up the hillside, manageable for most visitors with moderate mobility. It is best to check locally about visiting hours and conditions before arrival, as opening may be limited.

The tower contains three bells, with one tracing its origins to a 1512 casting before being recast. All three bells were refashioned after the 1789 fire, giving the bell chamber a second life.
