Reformed church in Făgăraș

The Reformed church in Făgăraș stands near the historical fortress and incorporates salvaged stone elements from an earlier structure, including a sculpted pew and door frame. These repurposed architectural components give the building a direct connection to older construction traditions in the region.

Construction began in 1715 under Count Teleki József and was completed in 1740 by his wife Bethlen Kata following his death in 1735. Her role in finishing the project proved essential to the building's final form.

The church holds an embroidered wedding dress of Bethlen Kata, displayed on the communion table, which reflects local Reformed craftsmanship and traditions.

The church is accessible to visitors during regular weekday hours, allowing exploration of its architectural features and artifacts. Visiting in the morning or early afternoon offers the best lighting to appreciate the interior details.

A memorial stone in front of the church bears an inscription by Bod Péter honoring Bethlen Kata's work in religious education and charity. This stone demonstrates how her contributions to the community were recognized and permanently commemorated by her contemporaries.
