Târgoviște Princely Court is a medieval royal residence with stone walls, towers, and chamber ruins scattered across a central location. The Chindia Tower stands prominently, while stone sculptures and artifacts are grouped in a dedicated Lapidarium section.
This site became the seat of Wallachia's rulers starting in 1396 and flourished under Matei Basarab in the 17th century. Political power remained centered here until 1714, when control shifted elsewhere.
The complex served as the physical center where ruling decisions shaped an entire region, and its layout reflects how authority was exercised and displayed. The rooms and structures visible today show the rhythms of court life and ceremonial importance.
The site is walkable on foot, and climbing the tower gives a view over the city. Wear proper shoes as paths are uneven and some areas have exposed stones.
A bathhouse from 1694 displays surprisingly advanced construction with a heating system and water network. This structure reveals that sophisticated engineering skills existed at that time.
