Stelea Monastery, Târgoviște, Orthodox monastery in Târgoviște, Romania.
Stelea Monastery is an Orthodox monastic complex in Târgoviște centered on the Church of the Resurrection, surrounded by the abbot's residence, monk cells, and protective walls. The site preserves traces of earlier dwellings and construction phases spanning several centuries.
The monastery was founded in the 16th century by merchant Stelea, while Moldavian influence shaped the site over time. A major transformation took place in 1645 under Moldavian Prince Vasile Lupu, who added new structures.
The church displays Moldavian architectural features and is the only house of worship in Wallachia to follow the model of the Three Hierarchs Church from Iași. Visitors can observe this unusual regional connection in the building's design and layout.
The monastery is located on Stelea Street and is easily accessible on most days. The grounds are spacious and allow for exploring both the church and the various surrounding structures at a leisurely pace.
The abbot's residence was rebuilt in 1975 but rests on foundations from three different centuries: the 15th, 16th, and 17th. This layering shows how the site was inhabited and rebuilt multiple times.
