Wooden church in Breb, Maramureș

The Church of the Holy Archangels is built entirely of wood, featuring a distinctive tall tower that defines the village skyline. Inside, detailed religious paintings cover the walls and create a reverent space where locals gather for worship.

The structure was originally built in 1531 in the Copacis area and relocated to its current location in 1626, undergoing multiple renovations across the centuries. This relocation and ongoing maintenance efforts reflect the community's commitment to preserving their religious space.

The graveyard beside the church displays wooden crosses carved with symbols that reflect local craftsmanship and spiritual traditions. These crosses show how people here have remembered their loved ones across generations.

The church serves as an active place of worship with regular services, particularly on Sundays when locals often gather in traditional dress. Visitors should respect that this is a living spiritual space where worship takes place.

A British prince personally contributed to saving this wooden structure, leading a restoration project that was completed in 2018. This unexpected international support shows how the small wooden church gained attention far beyond its remote location.
