Baia Mare Ethnography and Folk Art Museum, Folk art museum in Baia Mare, Romania
The Baia Mare Ethnography and Folk Art Museum displays traditional objects from daily life arranged in four large rooms, showing local customs from birth through adulthood. The exhibition also includes regional architectural elements and various forms of transportation equipment from earlier periods.
The institution was founded in 1977 and opened in 1978, growing from the Baia Mare Museum Association that city intellectuals established in 1899. These origins show how long local residents have been interested in preserving their regional history.
The collection shows traditional clothing, household items, and tools that reflect how people in Maramureș County lived in earlier times. These objects reveal the daily practices and crafts that shaped the region's identity.
The museum is located at Dealul Florilor 1 near the stadium in City Park and is accessible during regular opening hours. Visitors can explore both the main pavilion and the outdoor section.
The outdoor section features twelve sculptural columns by Vida Geza depicting regional figures from local mythology. These artworks blend with mask displays that relate to significant events from 1944.
