The Name of Mary Church, Catholic church in central Novi Sad, Serbia
The Name of Mary Church is a Catholic building in central Novi Sad designed in the Gothic Revival style, recognizable by its yellow brick facade. The structure reaches 72 meters in height and spans 52 meters in length with a width of 25 meters.
The current structure was completed in 1894 and replaced an earlier church from 1742 that was damaged during the city's bombardment in 1849. This reconstruction marked the restoration of the Catholic house of worship after a difficult period in the city's history.
The church was built by the local Catholic community and displays four altars with sculptures inside, along with a large painting of the Virgin Mary surrounded by Hungarian kings and saints. This artistic arrangement reflects the religious devotion and heritage of its congregation.
The building is located at Trg Slobode square in the city center and is easy to access on foot. Visitors will find that the interior receives natural light and offers space for quiet contemplation and viewing.
The architect György Molnár designed this structure without accepting any payment, and his generous contribution is honored with a bust inside the building. This act of craftsmanship offered freely remains a notable testament to the architect's passion for the project.
