Suvodol monastery

Suvodol monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery situated on a plateau within Mount Manastirska Glama near Zaječar. The church features a neoclassical iconostasis and displays paintings from the 19th century throughout its interior.

The first connection to this site traces back to 1255, while the present church structure was rebuilt in 1866 following the destruction of the original building. The reconstruction marked a new chapter for the monastery.

The monastery houses a notable collection of icons painted in 1892 by Milisav Marković, a prominent artist from the Timok Krajina region. The religious artwork here reflects the craftsmanship and faith that have been sustained across generations.

The monastery welcomes visitors and is administered by the Eparchy of Timok under the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is accessible by foot or car, and visitors should dress appropriately and behave respectfully at the site.

The monastery contains detailed frescoes depicting the life of Christ and numerous saints, combined with marble accents throughout the interior. This artistic combination demonstrates the craftsmanship of religious artists across different periods.
