Bács-Bodrog County Palace

The Bács-Bodrog County Palace is a government building in Sombor featuring a central facade with wrought iron railings, pilasters, and semicircular windows across two floors. The roof includes a distinctive open dome decorated with small columns above the main structure.

The building was constructed between 1805 and 1808 following architect Josef Bauer's designs and served as an administrative center from the start. A major renovation directed by architect Gyula Pártos took place in 1882 and significantly altered its appearance.

The building displays shields and a medallion bearing the city's coat of arms on its main facade. These symbols reflect its role as an important administrative center in the region.

The building currently houses the City Assembly of Sombor and continues to function as an administrative center. Visitors should note that it is an active government building and access may be limited to certain areas or times.

The roof features an unusual trapezoid shape topped with an open dome decorated with small columns, a distinctive architectural detail from the late 19th century renovation. This overhead embellishment often goes unnoticed from ground level but makes the building memorable from a distance or elevated viewpoint.
