Kirishsky District, Municipal district in Leningrad Oblast, Russia
Kirishsky District is a municipal district located in the central southern area of Leningrad Oblast covering land with extensive forest coverage throughout the territory. The region is served by the Sonkovo-Mga railway and benefits from access to the navigable Volkhov River.
The district was established in 1927 with its initial administrative center in Andreyevo. It experienced German occupation from October 1941 until January 1944.
The Kirishsky District Museum houses collections documenting local history, while thirty-two monuments across the region commemorate World War II events.
The district is best accessed via the Sonkovo-Mga railway line that runs through the area. Water-based travel along the Volkhov River offers another way to explore the region, especially during warmer months.
The economy is heavily concentrated on heavy industry, with major oil refineries and chemical plants based in the town of Kirishi. This industrial focus sets it apart from the predominantly rural character of surrounding areas in the region.
