White Lake, Federal cultural heritage site in Gatchina, Russia
White Lake spans across the grounds of Gatchina Palace, featuring multiple islands connected by wooden bridges and stone embankments.
The lake became part of the Gatchina Palace ensemble in 1790 when Paul I commissioned the construction of decorative elements around its perimeter.
The lake forms a central element in the Gatchina Museum-Preserve, integrating water features with architectural structures of the eighteenth century.
Visitors can access White Lake through the main entrance of Gatchina Palace Park, following marked pathways that circle the water.
The lake contains five artificial islands, each with specific landscaping patterns that reflect different European garden design traditions.
