Krasnoznamensk, Military town in Moscow Oblast, Russia
Krasnoznamensk is a restricted town in Moscow Oblast accessible only with official clearance issued by the authorities. The settlement sits west of the Russian capital and shares borders with Odintsovo district.
The settlement emerged after World War II as a closed garrison for space and defense facilities. It gained town status in 1981 and received its present name in 1994.
The town operates the Titov Main Test and Space Systems Control Center, which manages military satellite operations for the Russian space program.
Entry requires special permission as the area remains under military jurisdiction and closed to casual visitors. The nearest accessible settlements lie outside the restricted zone in neighboring municipalities.
The space control center in town bears the name of cosmonaut German Titov, who became the second human to orbit Earth. The facility still monitors a large portion of Russian satellites in orbit today.
