Magnitogorsk Urban Okrug extends along both banks of the Ural River, marking the geographical boundary between Europe and Asia at 370 meters elevation.
The district emerged in 1929 when Soviet authorities initiated the construction of a metallurgical plant, transforming an agricultural area into a major industrial center.
The district maintains three theatrical institutions, including the Pushkin Drama Theatre, Opera and Ballet House, and Puppet Theatre for resident entertainment.
The urban district connects to other regions through an international airport, railway system, and public transportation network of trams and buses.
The territory contains Mount Magnitnaya, which initially contained iron ore deposits with 55-60 percent concentration, leading to the establishment of this industrial center.
