Belokurikha, Wellness resort in Altai Krai, Russia
Belokurikha is a wellness resort in Altai Krai, Russia, that stretches along a river and is surrounded by forested hills. The settlement lies roughly 240 kilometers south of Barnaul at an elevation of around 250 meters (820 feet) above sea level.
The settlement was founded in 1803 and developed into a resort destination during the 1920s. It received official town status in 1982.
Locals use the public baths and walking paths along the river year-round, often as part of their daily routine. The name derives from the word for white water, referring to the steam rising from the hot springs in winter.
Visitors will find three main ski slopes and several wellness centers open throughout the year. Most treatments rely on natural thermal water sources available at the different centers.
The climate here is milder than in most other Siberian locations, allowing longer outdoor stays even in winter. The thermal springs contain radon, an element used in Russian spa therapy for a century.
