Roslavl

Roslavl is a town in Roslavlsky District within Smolensk Oblast in central Russia. The settlement sits at the crossing of several major roads and serves as a hub for the surrounding villages and towns.

Prince Rostislav of Smolensk founded the settlement in 1137 and gave it his name. After changing rulers and periods of destruction, it received town status in 1408.

The local museum displays artifacts from the region and offers visitors a window into the lives of earlier generations. Wooden houses stand beside Soviet apartment blocks and tell the story of how the town changed over the centuries.

The town is accessible by train from Smolensk and Bryansk and offers basic services for travelers. Shops and small cafés are found in the center and usually open on weekdays.

Factories in town have produced truck parts for decades and supply plants across Russia. Archaeological digs within the urban area have uncovered medieval tools and pottery from earlier settlements.
