Kopeysk, Industrial city in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia
Kopeysk is an industrial city in Kopeysk Urban Okrug in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, located southeast of Chelyabinsk at an elevation of around 200 meters. The urban area includes several residential neighborhoods and industrial zones that cover a wide territory.
The settlement was founded in 1907 as Ugolnye Kopi and developed through coal mining in the Chelyabinsk coal basin. In 1933, the settlement officially received city status.
The Kopeysk Machine-Building Plant maintains a museum displaying the evolution of mining equipment, documenting the technical progress of the regional industry.
The city is divided into eight territorial departments that provide different services for local residents. More than a thousand industrial enterprises operate in the area and shape the urban landscape through their facilities and plants.
Three rural settlements form part of the municipal area and offer a contrast to the industrial character of the core city. Kalachevo, Zaozerny, and Sineglazovo are mainly agricultural and lie in the surrounding countryside.
