Kopeysk, Industrial city in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia

Located southeast of Chelyabinsk at 200 meters elevation, Kopeysk extends across an urban territory with multiple industrial zones and residential districts.

Founded in 1907 as Ugolnye Kopi, the settlement gained city status in 1933 and developed through extensive coal mining operations in the Chelyabinsk coal basin.

The Kopeysk Machine-Building Plant maintains a museum displaying the evolution of mining equipment, documenting the technical progress of the regional industry.

Eight territorial departments manage the city services, while more than 1,000 industrial enterprises provide employment opportunities in manufacturing and production sectors.

Three rural settlements form part of the municipality: Kalachevo, Zaozerny, and Sineglazovo, each contributing to the agricultural dimension of this industrial center.
