Solnechnogorsk is an administrative town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, sitting on the shore of Senezh Lake along the Moscow-Saint Petersburg Highway, roughly 65 kilometers northwest of the Russian capital. The surrounding area combines industrial facilities with recreational zones near the lakefront.
The settlement evolved from the village of Solnushnaya through Solnechnaya Gora before gaining its current name and town status in 1938. Growth accelerated during the 20th century as transport links between Moscow and Saint Petersburg expanded.
