Tolmachevo Airport, International airport in Novosibirsk, Russia
Tolmachevo is an international airport in Ob, Russia, operating two parallel runways measuring 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) each. The facility spreads across multiple terminals with separate sections for domestic and international connections.
Operations began on July 12, 1957, with a Tupolev Tu-104 flight to Moscow. The facility expanded its capacity during the 1990s to accommodate international connections to Asia and Europe.
The terminal displays signs in both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, while Chinese translations appear in dedicated sections of the departure halls. Maps of trans-Siberian air routes hang on the walls, showing travelers the location between two continents.
Regular bus services run from Novosibirsk city center, located 16 kilometers (10 miles) to the west. Travelers should allow extra time for security checks when departing on international flights.
Cargo aircraft on routes between East Asia and Europe regularly use the facility for refueling stops. The geographic position makes it a hub for long-haul flights that cannot operate direct connections.
