Novo-Ryazanskaya Street Garage

Novo-Ryazanskaya Street Garage is a parking structure with a steel roof and masonry walls originally built for trucks and buses. The building has an unusual horseshoe shape that maximizes the space for storing vehicles.

The building was designed in 1929 by architects Konstantin Melnikov and Vladimir Shukhov when the Soviet Union was expanding rapidly and needed new urban facilities. It was one of the first examples of modern design applied to practical transportation problems.

The building shows how Soviet architects designed functional structures for daily transportation work. Its layout reveals practical thinking about moving vehicles in and out during Moscow's rapid growth period.

The garage sits near Kazansky Rail Terminal and is accessible by public transportation in the Basmanny District. The area is easy to reach and the location is central within the neighborhood.

The horseshoe shape was an innovative solution to maximize space in a time when land in the city was scarce. This unusual design allowed more vehicles to fit in a smaller area than traditional rectangular layouts would permit.
