Koltsovo Airport, International aerodrome in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Koltsovo Airport is an international airport about 16 kilometers (10 miles) southeast of Yekaterinburg's city center. The facility has two asphalt runways, terminal buildings, and a separate area for business aviation.
Construction started in 1928, and by 1941 a runway was completed under wartime pressure. In 1942, the first flight tests of the BI-1 jet fighter took place here, a turning point in aviation history.

You can reach the airport by metro line A or taxi to the terminal area in the north. Directional signs with Cyrillic and Latin letters help you navigate through the different sections.
The site hosted test flights for one of the world's first jet fighters on unfinished infrastructure. These early experiments with jet propulsion took place long before the post-war jet era began.
