Khopyor Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Voronezh Oblast, Russia
The Khopyor Nature Reserve covers 16,178 hectares along the Khopyor River, with 400 lakes and extensive floodplain forests containing oak and alder trees.
The Russian government established this protected area in 1935 to preserve the Russian desman population and support its distribution across neighboring regions.
The reserve maintains research facilities and educational programs focused on environmental protection, welcoming scientists and students to study local ecosystems.
Visitors can access guided nature trails and observation points throughout the reserve, with mandatory advance registration at the administration office.
The reserve contains 1,200 plant species, 45 mammal species, and 184 bird species, making it a center for biological research in central Russia.
