Voskresensky District, Municipal district in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.
Voskresensky District is a rural municipal district in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, in western Russia. Its administrative center is the village of Voskresenskoye, which serves as the seat of local government for the surrounding settlements and rural councils.
The district was created in 1929 as part of the broader administrative reorganization of the Soviet period, when it was placed within Gorki Krai. In 1936, it was transferred to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and it has remained within that region ever since.
The area is home to small rural communities where daily life follows the pace of the seasons and local farming traditions. Visitors passing through can see how village life in central Russia looks today, with wooden houses, kitchen gardens, and quiet roads.
The district is far from main tourist routes, so reaching it usually means driving or passing through Nizhny Novgorod, the closest city with regular transport links. Public transport in the area is limited, so planning ahead and having a vehicle makes travel much easier.
The name Voskresensky comes from the Russian word for "resurrection", pointing to an old church that once gave its name to the central settlement. This kind of church-based naming is common across Russian rural districts and reflects how deeply Orthodox life shaped local geography.
