Hotel Arctic, high-rise hotel in Murmansk, Russia
Hotel Arctic is a 19-story tall building in central Murmansk on Lenin Avenue. The approximately 55 meter high structure with large windows was once the highest building north of the Arctic Circle and provides modern rooms in various categories.
The original Hotel Arktika opened in 1933 as a four-story brick building with around a hundred rooms. The current tall building replaced it between 1972 and 1984 and was renamed Azimut Hotel Murmansk in 2014 after major renovation.
The hotel stands at Five Corners, Murmansk's main square, and shapes the city's appearance as a prominent tall building. It reflects Soviet modernism and remains part of how locals see their city.
The hotel is centrally located on Lenin Avenue and easily walkable from the bus and train stations. Rooms include heating, free Wi-Fi, and basic amenities, making it suitable for all types of travelers.
The hotel closed from 2009 to 2014 and went through comprehensive renovation that enlarged rooms and added modern elevators. The renovation preserved the building's character while making it safer and more comfortable.
