Galenki RT-70 radio telescope

The Galenki RT-70 is a radio telescope featuring a 70-meter diameter dish located in Russia's Primorsky Krai region at an elevation of about 200 meters. The massive antenna is used to track space probes and observe distant cosmic objects.

The telescope was built in the 1960s as part of the Soviet space program and began operations in 1965. It was constructed during the space race between superpowers and served as an important tool for Soviet space initiatives.

In 2008, over 500 messages were transmitted from this telescope toward the distant exoplanet Gliese 581c. These signals are expected to reach their destination in 2029, making this one of the few direct communication attempts with potentially habitable worlds.
