Гостиница Гальяни

The Galyani Hotel is a two-story Classical building distinguished by four evenly spaced columns flanking its main entrance and white stone ornaments across the facade. The plastered brick walls and detailed stonework create a formal appearance characteristic of that period's architectural style.

Italian merchant Paolo Galyani built this establishment in the late 1700s as a hotel with a tavern, restaurant, and entertainment hall on the premises. Over the following century it changed hands and uses several times, eventually housing a bank from 1993 onward.

The building reflects how important travelers and cultural figures were to the city's social life during the 19th century. Hotels like this one served as meeting places where artists, writers, and merchants gathered and exchanged ideas.

The building sits at the corner of Pushkinskaya and Volodarsky streets in central Tver and is easy to locate. You can view it from the outside since it now serves as a bank and interior access is not available to visitors.

The building was closely connected to major Russian writers in the early 1800s who mentioned it in their works and stayed there during their travels. This link to literary figures makes it a notable stop for anyone interested in Russian cultural history.
