Ushkova House, Kazan

Ushkova House is a mansion on Kremlevskaya Street in Kazan, featuring a facade that blends Empire and Baroque styles. Inside, multiple rooms display ornate stucco decorations and architectural elements from different historical periods.

The building was constructed in 1908 as a wedding gift from chemical industrialist Alexei Ushkov to his wife Zinaida. It was converted into the National Library in 1919 and has remained an important cultural institution since then.

Each room displays different design themes, ranging from medieval chambers to Renaissance halls decorated with gilded dragons and bronze ornaments. This variety shows how the original owner appreciated different historical styles and wanted them all represented under one roof.

The building welcomes visitors through guided tours that typically last around 40 minutes and can be reached easily from Tukaya metro station. It is helpful to check visiting hours in advance, as availability may vary depending on the season or special events.

Inside, there is a winter garden with a stone grotto featuring stained glass windows that filter natural light. The light passing through these windows casts colored patterns across the marble floor, creating a rare and distinctive effect.
