Илиайы аргъуан

The Prophet Elijah Church is an Orthodox house of worship situated at the Meshchansky cemetery in Vladikavkaz with traditional Russian Orthodox design features. The structure includes a chapel and a prominent bell tower that stand out in the city's landscape.

The chapel's construction began in 1888 and was completed with its consecration on August 11, 1895 after seven years of work. During the Soviet period, the building served as the administrative center of Orthodox Christianity in Ossetia from the 1940s until 2004.

This church serves as a spiritual gathering place for the Orthodox community in Vladikavkaz where people come to worship. It remains central to religious life in the region and reflects deep devotion among local believers.

The church building is located at 70 Dzerzhinsky Street and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should know that services take place on Sundays and appropriate dress is needed when visiting a religious site.

The church grounds hold the grave of architect Pavel Schmidt who designed the building. The site also preserves a replica of the venerated Mozdok Icon and contains a memorial to the locally revered Saint Anastasia.
