Краснояровское городище, Archaeological fortress in Utesnoe, Russia
The Krasnoye Fortress extends across 180 hectares on a mountain ridge, protected by three rows of ramparts reaching heights between 2 and 8 meters.
The site served as the capital of the Eastern Xia state from 1215 to 1233, until Mongol forces captured and destroyed the settlement.
Archaeological excavations revealed a Buddhist temple containing bronze ritual objects and multiple residential terraces with heating systems called kanns.
The fortress contains fourteen gates oriented to the southwest, with a complete outer wall perimeter measuring approximately 8 kilometers.
The central Forbidden City section contained wooden columns on stone foundations, featuring roof tiles decorated with terracotta dragon heads.
