Краснояровское городище

Krasnoye Fortress is an archaeological site sprawling across 180 hectares on a mountain ridge, secured by three rows of ramparts. The outer wall creates a perimeter of roughly 8 kilometers with fourteen gates facing toward the southwest.

This fortress served as the capital of Eastern Xia state between 1215 and 1233, when Mongol forces captured and destroyed it. The settlement's prosperity during this period came to an abrupt end through military conquest.

The temple excavations reveal bronze ritual objects that show the spiritual beliefs held by past residents. Residential areas with their heating systems provide insight into how people adapted to the mountain climate.

The site sits on a mountain ridge and requires careful exploration since the terrain is uneven and modern facilities are absent. Sturdy footwear and plenty of time help you navigate the ramparts and understand the layout of gates throughout the site.

The central area reveals wooden posts set on stone foundations, a rare construction technique in this region. Roof tiles decorated with terracotta dragon heads show the artistic skill of those who lived here.
