Koryazhemsky Nikolayevsky Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Koryazhma, Russia
The Koryazhemsky Nikolayevsky Monastery sits on the left bank of the Vychegda River and houses two main churches: the Church of the Holy Mandylion and the Church of Saint Longin. The complex functions as a religious center in this northern region with the monastic core buildings and connected structures.
The monastery was founded in 1535 at the confluence of the Bolshaya Koryazhemka River and marked the beginning of the settlement that later became Koryazhma. This location played a role in the early colonization of this remote northern region.
The monastery maintains Eastern Orthodox traditions through regular religious services and ceremonies that shape the spiritual rhythm of the place. Devotion to Saint Longin, whose relics rest here, has defined the spiritual life of this community across the centuries.
The site can be reached from Nizovka railway station, which connects Kotlas and Vorkuta. The monastery sits in a remote northern region, so visitors should prepare for harsh weather conditions and limited facilities.
The Church of the Holy Mandylion, built in 1746, is one of the few original structures that survived the major demolition of 1933. This survivor of the destruction stands today as a rare witness to the architectural history of the complex.
