Mordovski Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Mordovia, Russia

The Mordovski Nature Reserve extends across 32,162 hectares of mixed forests, lakes, and meadows along the right bank of the Moksha River.

The Russian government established Mordovski Nature Reserve on March 5, 1936, naming it after naturalist Pyotr Smidovich who promoted nature conservation initiatives.

The reserve functions as a research center where scientists study native wildlife, conduct ecological monitoring, and document changes in local ecosystems.

Visitors can explore designated hiking trails throughout the reserve from May through September when temperatures remain above freezing and conditions permit outdoor activities.

The territory contains twenty oxbow lakes formed by the Moksha River and supports 788 vascular plant species, including rare orchids and water chestnuts.
