Rizhskaya overpass, Elevated way near Rizhsky Railway Station, Moscow, Russia
The Rizhskaya overpass is an elevated roadway in Moscow that carries traffic across multiple railway lines below. It spans approximately 1 kilometer and links the central and eastern parts of the city through this continuous bridge structure.
The eastern section opened in 1975 under engineer A.B. Druganov's direction as a key infrastructure project. The western portion was completed decades later, finally creating a complete elevated link across the railway lines.
This elevated structure forms a crucial section of Moscow's Third Ring Road, connecting the Sushchevsky Val district with Gavrikova Street through central Moscow.
The structure lets vehicles pass over multiple railway tracks and saves travel time between different parts of Moscow. It serves as a major transit route that is well integrated into the city's road network.
Engineers chose an elevated design instead of tunneling, which required removing part of the Rizhsky railway station's cargo facility. This decision had lasting visual impact on the surrounding area.
