Strelna Palace of Peter I

Strelna Palace of Peter I is a white and yellow wooden building set on a hill west of the Konstantinovskiy Palace park, showing architectural features from the early 1700s. The interior has been restored to display rooms and spaces that reflect how it was furnished and used during that period.

Construction started in 1711 under Peter I's direct supervision, and major changes were made around 1720 when a bath and additional rooms were added to the structure. These modifications show how the imperial residence evolved to meet changing needs during this period.

The palace displays personal objects and artworks from Peter's time that reflect how he lived and used this residence. Visitors can walk through the rooms and see the everyday objects that reveal the emperor's connection to the place.

The palace is open to visitors as part of the Peterhof State Museum Reserve, with guided tours available through the restored rooms. Wear comfortable walking shoes since the grounds have uneven paths and exploring the interior involves considerable walking.

Fishponds in the surrounding gardens were used to breed carp and trout specifically for the imperial court's meals during religious fasting periods. These ponds reveal how carefully the estate was designed to provide for the emperor's needs year-round.
