The Volgograd Panorama Museum is a military history museum in Tsentralny District, Russia, displaying 3,500 items across eight halls. Four dioramas and a central triumphal hall depict the Battle of Stalingrad.
The museum opened in 1937 and gathers weapons, maps, photographs, and personal letters that document the battle from 1942 to 1943. This fight marked a turning point in World War II.
The exhibition displays a ceremonial sword that King George VI of the United Kingdom presented to the city to honor the population's determination. The sword rests in one of the halls and draws many visitors who pause before it.
The museum sits at Ulitsa Marshala Chuykova 47 and opens Tuesday through Sunday, with hours extending to 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The building is accessible and the halls can be viewed in about two hours.
The museum preserves the adjacent ruins of a mill from 1904, which stand as a physical witness to the destruction caused by the battle. The mill wall still bears bullet holes that visitors can examine up close.
