The Old Bridge extends 538 meters across the Vyatka, linking Kirov's left bank with the right side through seven concrete spans. The structure rests on eight pre-stressed concrete support pillars that distribute its weight.

Built in 1962, this bridge replaced the ferry service that had been the primary way to cross the river since the early 1800s. The shift to permanent concrete infrastructure marked a turning point in how the city accessed both its banks.

This bridge serves as a daily crossing point where residents of Kirov connect across the Vyatka River. It has become woven into the local identity as a symbol of the city joining its divided banks.

The bridge is easy to access on foot and provides clear pathways for pedestrians and vehicles along its entire length. After extensive work done between 2007 and 2008, it remains in good condition for daily public use.

The pre-stressed concrete design was an innovative engineering approach for the Soviet era, allowing the bridge to span the river with fewer support points. This technical solution enabled the structure to cover the significant distance between Kirov's two banks.
