Satyricon Theatre, Theatre company on Sheremetevskaya Street, Moscow, Russia
Satyricon Theatre is a theatre company in the Meshchansky District of Moscow that operates two stages in separate buildings and presents a wide range of productions. After the 2015 reconstruction, the company split its performances between a large hall at Sheremetevskaya Street 8 and a smaller space in a nearby drama school.
The company began in 1939 in Leningrad as a theatre for miniatures and moved to Moscow in 1982, receiving its current name five years later. The major reconstruction in 2015 led to a temporary relocation of performances until both venues could reopen.
Konstantin Raikin leads the company and stages adaptations of work by Gogol, Poe and contemporary playwrights across both performing spaces, which now function as separate venues following the renovation. The repertoire runs from comic sketches to tragic productions, drawing local audiences from different generations who appreciate the range of theatrical forms presented.
The two venues are in different buildings in the northern part of the center, so checking which location hosts your chosen production before visiting is necessary. Performances run both during the day and in the evening, and most productions are staged in Russian.
The smaller hall is located inside the Higher School of Performing Arts, so visitors can see how performance spaces and training facilities coexist. The temporary move to Planet KVN during the renovation turned into a longer transitional arrangement than originally planned.
