Truvor site of ancient settlement

The settlement occupies a triangular hilltop near Lake Gorodishchenskoye, with stone fortification walls and deep protective trenches around its perimeter.

The site dates back to the 7th century when Krivichi tribes established their settlement, which later became mentioned in the Laurentian Chronicle of 862.

Archaeological excavations revealed both Slavic wooden houses with clay furnaces and non-Slavic dwellings with clay floors, indicating a multi-ethnic medieval population.

The site includes the 17th-century Saint Nicholas Church and remains accessible through a marked path from the Izborsk fortress parking area.

Limestone casting molds from the 8th-9th centuries found at the site demonstrate early medieval metallurgical activities in northwestern Russia.
