Truvor site of ancient settlement, Archaeological site in Izborsk, Russia
Truvor site is an ancient settlement located on a triangular hilltop near Lake Gorodishchenskoye, surrounded by stone walls and defensive ditches along its edges. The excavated remains include foundations of wooden structures with clay furnaces and other dwellings of different construction types.
The settlement was founded by Krivichi tribes in the 7th century and later appears in the Laurentian Chronicle as a documented historical location. The site demonstrates how this hilltop served as an important center of habitation for many generations.
The settlement shows traces of different housing types that reveal how people from various backgrounds lived side by side in medieval times. Visitors can see evidence of distinct building styles and daily practices that coexisted at this location.
You can reach the site on foot via a marked path starting from the Izborsk fortress parking area. A 17th-century church stands on the grounds, and walking trails connect to the excavated remains scattered around the hilltop.
Limestone casting molds from the 8th and 9th centuries found here show that metal objects were produced at this location. These tools are among the oldest evidence of metalworking in the region.
