Our Lady of Kazan church, Tempel in Russland
Our Lady of Kazan church is an Orthodox house of worship in Russian Baroque style with a plain white exterior and soft pink interior walls. The space contains multiple side chapels for different seasons, decorated with old paintings, icons, and gold accents throughout.
The church was built between 1773 and 1779 under the direction of Mother Alexandra, who was guided by spiritual vision and used local stone from a nearby river. After Soviet damages in the 1920s and 1940s, restoration work began in 1992 and culminated with the consecration of the main altar in 2004.
The church serves as a spiritual center for the Russian Orthodox community, where services in Church Slavonic and English connect people to their heritage. Visitors experience Russian religious traditions through icons, ceremonies, and community gatherings that honor both past and present.
The church welcomes visitors who should maintain a respectful demeanor, as services happen regularly and worshippers may be in prayer. It is helpful to check service times before visiting to avoid disrupting ongoing religious activities.
According to local tradition, Mother Alexandra heard a voice and witnessed a miraculous icon of Saint Stephen appear on a wooden block, leading to a chapel dedicated to him. During the blessing of new bells in 2004, clouds parted and sunlight broke through immediately after the cross was raised, an event many present considered remarkable.
