Храм Сретения Господня

The Presentation of the Lord Temple in Zaostrovye is a red brick building with classical columns and a tent-shaped bell tower that crowns the complex. The structure spans two floors containing six altar spaces, each dedicated to different saints or devotional themes.

Construction of this stone church began in 1808, replacing earlier wooden buildings that served the local community. The building took 70 years to complete, finishing in 1878 after long decades of work by local craftspeople.

The temple takes its name from the Orthodox Christian feast of the Presentation of the Lord, reflecting centuries of faith in this part of Russia. Inside, the arrangement of multiple altars and chapels shows how worship was organized across different spaces and devotions.

The temple is located in Rikasovo village within the Primorsky District, roughly 4 kilometers from central Arkhangelsk. Regular religious services take place here, so visitors should plan their visits accordingly and respect worship times.

This temple belongs to a rare group of approximately 200 Russian Orthodox churches that remained continuously open throughout the Soviet era. This stands as a remarkable exception given the widespread closure of religious institutions during that period in much of the Soviet Union.
