Церковь Дмитрия Солунского

The Church of Saint Demetrius in Morevo is built in the Naryshkin Baroque style, featuring distinctive tiered roofs and elaborate ornamental details. The structure displays traditional elements of Russian Orthodox architecture with its carefully decorated exterior and characteristic proportions.

Construction began in 1779 following a visit by Empress Catherine the Great, with local parishioners from surrounding settlements funding the project. The building became an important landmark for the region and remained in use for religious purposes until the Soviet era.

The church was built to serve the local community of nearby settlements and functioned as the spiritual center for worship and gatherings. Its decorated surfaces and layout still reflect the values its builders wanted to express.

The building now functions as a school and is not open for religious visits, though its exterior architecture remains visible from the surrounding area. Visitors can observe the ornamental features and building style from outside, taking in the distinctive design from the street.

Next to the church stood the residence of merchant Sveshnikov, a wealthy businessman whose house complemented the religious structure and formed a notable architectural pair. This combination of merchant and ecclesiastical buildings shaped the neighborhood's appearance and reflected the economic patterns of the era.
