The church features Naryshkin Baroque architecture with its distinctive tiers, decorative elements, and traditional Russian Orthodox structural design elements throughout the building.

Construction of the Saint Demetrius church began in 1779, following Empress Catherine the Great's visit, funded by local parishioners from Yagodnaya and Porokhovaya settlements.

The interior of the church contained religious artifacts and decorations that demonstrated the social position and religious dedication of its congregation during the pre-revolution period.

The church building no longer serves its original religious purpose, as the structure now houses Russian-Tatar secondary school number 81.

The merchant Sveshnikov's house stood next to the church, forming an architectural ensemble that defined the neighborhood's character in the late 18th century.
