Church of Saint Theodore Stratelates on the Brook, Veliky Novgorod, Medieval Orthodox church in Veliky Novgorod, Russia
The single-domed stone church features a three-lobed facade with decorative brick crosses and stone elements on the exterior walls.
The church was constructed between 1360 and 1361 by Novgorod leader Semyon Andreyevich and his mother Natalia on the bank of Fedorovsky Stream.
The interior walls, pillars, and arches contain red-brown frescoes from the late 14th century, painted by contemporaries of Byzantine artist Theophanes the Greek.
The church museum operates from 10:00 to 17:00, except Wednesdays, Thursdays, and last Tuesday of each month, with audio guides in multiple languages.
Medieval visitors carved numerous graffiti messages into the church walls during the 14th and 15th centuries, providing insights into daily life.
